Appalachian Buttocks Basket
Fine Appalachian type Buttocks’ form (orschbok) egg basket. A traditional form of hickory splint
gathering basket with 1 1/8" wide thin slat bentwood hoop handle, and 1" wide rim hoop. Made with traditional construction techniques of fine cross-weave covered center beam and rim, secondary rod rim, and extensive interwoven binding at the union. It measures approximately 9.25" x 10" x 9.25". With an excellent oxidized, toned surface and overall, very good condition. Found in Southeastern Pennsylvania and dating to the mid-19 th century.
