A carved book-form spruce gum box, made from a single piece of wood. A relief carved church is on one side, while on the other side, an inset window displays a die-cut blessing “May evry (sic) blessing God can give Bring peace around you While you live!” The slide lid at the top provides access to the gum storage compartment. From New England, likely Maine, it is in very good as found condition with excellent coloring and a superb patina. The box measures approximately 4" x 2 3/4" and dates to the second half of the 19th century.
