A very nice chip-carved decorated Mackerel Plow. A small hand tool designed for cultivating garden patches. It is made of maple with a cut-out hand grip and a small iron cultivating blade mounted on one end. The other end has a very well carved decorative curl. One side of the piece is covered with chip-carvings, the other side is smooth. It measures approximately 8” long x 2” high x 0.75” wide. It is in very good condition, with wear consistent with use, but there are no breaks, cracks, or repairs. The carvings and patina are superb. Found in New England, and dating to the mid-19th century.
