Antique Dresden Holiday Wreath
This early, antique Dresden All-Holiday brass wreath is in fine, original condition and retains a wonderful aged patina. This is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of selling. It comes out of my personal collection. It has various animals, people, sleighs, etc., and representations of all holidays. There are 69 characters (minimum) that I can count. I have recounted several times and come up with a different number every time. This one measures approximately 16" in diameter.
Victorian Dresden wreaths date back to the late 1800s. The style originates from Dresden and Leipzig, Germany, where artisans crafted lightweight ornaments and decorations using embossed, thin brass that is stamped relief. Because they featured diverse seasonal or whimsical charms rather than strictly Christmas motifs, they were often kept out year-round.
