Georgian Tea Caddy

Here is a Georgian, Robert Adam style, neoclassical tea caddy. Made with mahogany veneer, inlayed with satinwood, or possibly sycamore, in an abstract foliage or shell motif on the top, a swag design on the front, with cross banding along the edges of the top and front. The interior is composed of two compartments lined with hand painted paper in a floral motif. Each is covered by a snuggly fitting solid mahogany lid with a small round ivory or bone knob. The caddy measures approximately 7.75” long x 4.5” high x 4.5” wide. It is English, possibly Irish, dating to ca. 1780 – 1800. It is a very attractive piece, complete with its key, and is in as found, probably refinished, condition.
