Glass Whale Oil Lamp

A free-blown glass whale oil Sparking finger lamp. Made of colorless glass, with a conical-form font, raised on a circular-form foot. There is an applied thumb rest extending off the shoulder with a lightly ribbed, large, applied strap handle that extends to the foot. On the underside is a rough pontil mark. Fitted with a tin single-tube drop-in burner with a tiny, curled tab arm. American, and dating from circa 1825. The little lamp measures approximately 4" high to top of font, x 2 ½ " diameter at the foot. It is virtually undamaged, with some minute wear to the font and some scattered manufacturing imperfections, including bubbles and annealing lines. The burner has some light denting and rust.
