American School. Watercolor and pencil portrait of a young child holding a kitten, circa 1850. Depicted seated on a small, upholstered bench above a patterned carpet, wearing a white dress with lace trim and a coral bead necklace. Done on paper and in a period walnut oval frame measuring approximately 13 inches x 11 inches. Overall, it is in very good condition with even toning, no holes or tares, and some modest creases.
