Combination Tinder/Chamberstick (25-187)
25-187. A substantial brass tinder box. complete with an integrated candle holder mounted to the cover. The box retains its original contents: a tow tinder, concealed beneath the lid, a piece of flint, a steel flint striker, and a candle. Thus, providing everything necessary to strike an ember and light the candle. Once lit, the riveted handle allows the piece to be used as a chamberstick. Likely English, possibly American, and dating to circa 1800. Constructed of medium-heavy gauge brass. The candle socket, with candle-nub ejection slot, and the handle, are each secured to the box with three copper rivets. The piece measures approximately 9.5” long x 4.5” in diameter x 3.5” high.
